What is Person-Centred Counselling?

Person-centred counselling is a powerful, compassionate approach to therapy founded by psychologist Carl Rogers. At its heart is a belief that you are the expert in your own life — and with the right support, you have the inner resources to grow, heal and thrive. I believe that everyone has the capacity to move towards the best version of themselves and to cope with life’s many challenges. Person-centred counselling supports this natural potential by creating a safe, accepting space where you can truly be yourself.

I believe in your own capacity to grow and heal when met with the right conditions. I therefore offer a relationship built on empathy, honesty, and deep respect — where you can speak freely, without fear of judgement or pressure. This way of working can support a wide range of challenges. By creating a space that feels safe, real, and accepting, we can begin to explore what matters to you and work towards meaningful, lasting change.

This approach is grounded in three core conditions:

Empathy

Truly understanding your world from your point of view.

Unconditional Positive Regard

Being accepted just as you are, without judgement.

Congruence

Your counsellor being real and genuine with you.

Many of us grow up with conditions of worth — messages like “I’m only lovable if I succeed” — which can lead to introjected values: beliefs and behaviours we’ve absorbed from others that may not truly reflect who we are. Person-centred counselling gently helps you unravel these, reconnect with your authentic self, and live more freely.

No pressure, no judgement — just a warm, genuine relationship where you’re listened to deeply and supported to find the answers that feel right for you.
