A warm welcome to you.
I’m Gurpal Bharj, a qualified person-centred counsellor with a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I work within their ethical framework to provide a safe, respectful, and confidential space for clients.
My path into counselling grew from years spent working in education as a qualified teacher, where I saw first-hand the emotional pressures faced by young people, families, and adults alike. Supporting others through difficult moments, and seeing the difference that feeling truly heard can make, led me towards counselling work.
I also understand personally the value of having a space to talk openly and be supported without judgement, which deepened my belief in the counselling process and the importance of genuine human connection.
I have experience supporting adults, teenagers, and parents across a wide range of emotional and life challenges. Alongside private practice, I have worked with adults and young people through charitable organisations, as well as supporting secondary school students experiencing issues such as anxiety, school avoidance, friendship difficulties, family change, and emotional distress.
I have also worked with armed forces families and understand some of the unique pressures and transitions that military life can bring.
Whatever brings you to counselling, my aim is to offer a warm, supportive space where you can explore things at your own pace and feel genuinely heard.
In our counselling sessions, I offer a space where you are met with authenticity, empathy, and without judgement. In experiencing this, many people find they are able to bring more of their own honesty into the room too.
Through this process, you can begin to understand yourself more deeply — how you feel, how you relate to yourself, and how this shapes your relationships with others. It’s about reconnecting with your true self. This understanding can be transformative, often leading to a greater sense of clarity, connection, and a more enriching way of experiencing your life.
